Penn State Sanctions

According to NCAA President Mark Emmert, Penn State built an "athletic culture that went horribly awry". As a result, the NCAA has levied the following punishment:
#1- $60 million fine with money to be used to establish an endowment to be used for the victims of child abuse and sexual abuse.
#2- 4 year bowl ban
#3- loss of ten more scholarships per year for 4 years(from 25 per year to 15)
#4- all wins by Penn State football program between 1998-2011 will be vacated.
#5- total of five years on probation
The NCAA also has reserved the right to levie punishment against any individual who might have had something to do with the violations.

The press conference is still ongoing. We will update as necessary.

ESPN is reporting that tomorrow morning at 9:00am NCAA president Mark Emmert will announce sanctions against both Penn State and it's football program.

Paterno statue coming down

Reports coming out of Pennsylvania this morning are that the statue of Joe Paterno has been taken down from outside the stadium where the coaching giant lead the Nittany Lions for almost 46 years.  With the child abuse scandals that have streamed out of Penn State since last season, I have done a lot of thinking about how I would handle this as a fan of a University where it happened.  What if the names and place was different?  What if this would have been Bear Bryant and not Paterno involved in this?  Would it change the way I feel?  Well, my response is coming this week but I am curious of a couple of different things from our readers.  First, do you feel that the Joe Paterno statue should come down and why or why not?  Secondly, do you feel that the NCAA should impose any sanctions toward the football program at Penn State...why or why not?  Please post your comments to the blog so that others can read them and respond to them.  Let us know what you are thinking!

Anybody ready for some football? ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

Alright Ladies and Gents, I'm looking at trying to get the blog up and running before football season kicks off again!  I am still looking for some folks that might be willing to pitch in a write for the blog every once in awhile.  I'm especially looking for an Auburn fan and UGA fan that would be willing to add a little spice to things.  I'd like to have some more of the SEC represented too so if you are a fan of one of the other teams and want to jump in, let me know.  Don't worry if you've never done this before.  Heck, you don't have to be an expert or I wouldn't be doing it.  This is a blog written by normal sports fans that is read and appreciated by normal sports fans.  Look forward to hearing back from you if you want to join in as a guest blogger!  Just post a comment to this blog post or email me at scubajack4ua@gmail.com.
